Wim Wenders as a guest of the 9th IFF ERA NEW HORIZONS in Wrocław
Wim Wenders, director of Lisbon Story and Buena Vista Social Club, one of the most important contemporary filmmakers, will be a guest of the 9th IFF ERA NEW HORIZONS in Wrocław (23 July - 2 August 2009). Wenders will come to attend premiere screenings of his latest work - Palermo Shooting. The film's main character, Finn (Campino) is a famous photographer, working with the greatest fashion companies and the most beautiful models. A session with Mila Jovovich leads him unexpectedly to Southern Italy, where Finn meets a mysterious man (Dennis Hopper) he has previously seen in his dreams and a beautiful woman who will make the journey to a strange town a turning point in his life. For the film, Wenders used music by Nick Cave, Beirut, Lou Reed, Calexico and Portishead. Cinema premiere on 21 August. Wim Wenders - producer, screenwriter and one of the best-known contemporary film directors. At a very early stage in his career, he drew the critics' attention with the film The Goalkeeper's Fear of the Penalty (Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter - 1971). Alice in the Cities (Alice in den Städten), made in 1974, confirmed his unique talent. The 1980s was the time of his greatest success - Golden Palm in Cannes for Paris, Texas (1984) and screenplay and directing awards for Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin - 1987) at the same festival. Between 1991 and 1996 he was president of the European Film Academy. He is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg.
